Ask the spreadsheet, and show the cells

Gemini answers a question about a pasted table and cites the cells the answer came from.

·Data·15 min·Starter

An answer with the cell range behind it, and a note when the sheet cannot support the question.

  1. 1

    Paste a small range

A few dozen rows is enough. A whole export makes the citation useless.

  2. 2

    Ask one question

One question per pass. A second question hides which cells were used.

  3. 3

    Check the cells

Open the cited range. If the numbers do not match, discard the answer.

The prompt to paste

I will paste a small table and ask a question. Answer only from the table.

Rules:
- Cite the columns and the row labels you used.
- Show the arithmetic if you add or average.
- If the table cannot answer the question, say what column is missing.
- Do not infer a trend beyond the rows I pasted.
- Round only if I ask.

Table:
[paste]

Question:
[ask one question]

Pasted values can be stale. The answer is about the paste, not the live sheet.
