Write a job description that attracts real candidates
ChatGPT turns rough hiring notes into a job description with realistic responsibilities, no fluff, and clear deal-breakers.
A job post that says what the role does, what success looks like, and what will disqualify a candidate.
- 1
Write what the role actually does
Paste real tasks from the notes. A vague description attracts vague candidates.
- 2
Remove invented deal-breakers
If the draft added requirements you did not list, delete them. Every must-have shrinks the candidate pool.
- 3
Post the description where candidates look
Put it on your careers page, LinkedIn, or the job board where your last good hire found you. Do not tweak the language per platform.
The prompt to paste
Write a job description from my hiring notes. The goal is clarity, not marketing. Role: [title] Notes: [paste rough notes: what the person will do, what tools they will use, what outcome you need in 90 days, deal-breakers] Format: - Role in one sentence - Responsibilities: 4-6 bullets, each starting with a verb, written as tasks not themes - What success looks like in the first 90 days (one paragraph, specific outcomes) - Must-haves: skills, experience, or traits that are non-negotiable (at most 5) - Deal-breakers: circumstances that will not work (remote vs office, time zones, travel, equity-heavy comp) - Applying: one paragraph on how to apply and what to include Do not invent perks, growth promises, or mission statements I did not mention. Do not add "rockstar" or "ninja." If the notes do not specify compensation, leave that section out. Under 400 words total.
A job description is not a wish list. If a skill is a nice-to-have, leave it off the must-haves or candidates will not apply.
